Аннотация: The purpose of the research is to determine the effectiveness of the discussion in the formation of communication skills among students studying a foreign language. To achieve this goal, it was planned to solve the following tasks: 1. To analyze the fundamental methodological theories of the formation and development of listening skills and abilities; 2.To investigate the mechanisms of speech perception by ear and their functioning in the discussion; 3.Clarify the concept of "listerning"; 4.Clarify the concept of "discussion"; 5.The study of listerning as an educational activity, as well as a component of oral communication;6.Define the communicative goals of listerning; 7.Classify the types of learning listerning and auditory skills; 8.Analyze the features and difficulties of perception and understanding of a foreign language, in particular English speech by ear; 9.Develop a typology of learning tasks for teaching listening, taking into account the levels of understanding of the text and auditory skills and abilities through discussion; 10.Develop a set of tasks for teaching listening, integrated into the curriculum of teaching English to students; 11.To conduct a pedagogical experiment to test the methodology for the formation of listening skills and abilities,taking into account the mechanisms of perception and listening strategies of students through group discussions of 3rd year English language learners.

Achieving this goal involves solving the following tasks:1.to identify the specificity of professional skills of non-language students based on the analysis of domestic and foreign psychological and pedagogical literature,to clarify the features and structural and content parameters of the main concept professional skill.2.based on the identified features and content parameters to substantiate the pedagogical conditions of forming basic professional skills of students by means of a foreign language to develop the model and implement the technology of competence approach in the process of teaching students a foreign language;to develop the model and implement the technology of competence approach in the process of teaching students a foreign language. 3.to identify the main criteria and indicators of students` professional skills formation by mean of foreign language.4.to experimentally verify the effectiveness of the implementation of the proposed technologies of competence appoach in the leaning process.
